Travel advice

The Sixfield Stadium is on one of those out-of-town estates that includes places like TGI Fridays, Frankie and Bennys, McDonalds, BK and a UCG Cinema.
Sixfields is around 3 miles out of the centre of town, just off the A45 (Upton Way) heading west and towards the M1.
If you get lost The Express Lift test tower which can be seen for miles is close by and heading for that takes you close to the ground or in the right direction.

Sixfields Stadium is approximately 69 miles from Brentford.

Getting there by road
Directions from Official Northampton Town Web Site
Leave the M1 at Junction 15A and then take the A43, for roughly two miles, towards Northampton and you will come to the ground on your right

Please note that you should allow for delays on the M1 between junctions 6A and 10, both north and southbound. This is due to road widening taking place and the resulting contraflows. This work is planned to continue until December 2008. Full story here
For up to the minute traffic reports from the AA, call 401 100 from your mobile.
Calls cost a minimum of 60p per minute. Mobile rates vary.

An alternative route favoured by a number of travelling Bees is to take the M40 out to junction 10 and then pick up the A43 which will join the M1 at junction 15A (and then pick up the directions above); this will add more than 20 miles to your journey, but will avoid some of the disaster areas on the M1.

Parking
There is a fair sized car park located at the ground, which is free.
Make sure though that you arrive early as it has been known for it to get full for the more popular games.
Also don't try to park at the UCG as you could be faced with a hefty penalty!

I am in debt to m'learned friend Northampton Bee for the following gems on parking at Sixfields:
"Parking is really hard. There is a car park right by the ground that fills up so get there early. If you are eating or drinking in one of the places right by the ground it is best to ask nicely if you can leave your car in their car parks.
I live in a place called Duston which is near to Sixfields and well signposted, park anywhere in Duston Main Road behind the Co-Op for example and have a 10 minute walk to the ground. Not a great deal of use but a last resort if the car parks by the ground fill up or if you don't want a long wait to leave.

I am indebted to RobBEEh for the following:
"There are big Car Parks to the right as you go onto the complex from the above directions. They will take a while to get out of at the end of the game. If you're feeling adventurous you can try the estate opposite the complex (COULD BE EQUALLY BUSY) or on the dual carraigeway going back towards London. There are parking spaces here but few and far between and taken early on match day."

Getting there by train
The Football Ground Guide says: Northampton train station is over two miles from the ground, so it is probably best to hire a taxi.
However if you feel like braving the 25-30 minute walk then Phil Spokes provides the following directions; 'Turn right from the station and follow the road past the express lift tower (you can't miss it, a tall tower that was once used for testing lifts), passing the Wickes store on the left. Continue down to the Leisure Centre, turn left down the path beside it and then turn right onto the road. You will see the stadium in the distance in front of you.
Dave Stuttard a visiting Bury fan adds; 'From the railway station it is possible to get a bus to take you most of the way to Sixfields stadium. The buses go from the bridge over the railway at the south end of the station. The number 40 and the more frequent 1/1A will get you near to the stadium (around half a mile away)'.

Silverlink Trains operate direct services from London (Euston) to Northampton. Journey time is just over an hour. As an example of services: depart Euston 16:22; arrive Northampton 17:27.
For the return the timing is slightly longer, close to 1hr 30mins; for instance depart Northampton 22:46; arr. Euston 00:09.
Please contact National Rail Enquiries for full details on train services and latest price packages: 0845 7 48 49 50 or www.nationalrail.co.uk.

Getting there by coach
Coaches leave the Layton Road Car Park at 4.30pm.
The cost will be £16 (£14 for Lifeline Members, Season Ticket holders, members of the Football Club, Bees United and BIAS). Concession £2 off in either category for junior and OAPs. To book for coaches please call into the AWAY TRAVEL office or telephone 020-8941 0425.

Local radio coverage
Not sure if there will be Live Coverage, but BBC Radio Northampton will cover news on the Cobblers.
104.2FM and 103.6FM
"A new ground out of town. You can even sit on a hill overlooking the ground and get a good view! All the stands give good views and car parks make the ground easy to get to." - Chris Bushe, www.footballgroundz.co.uk

What do other Bees fans think?
"Most people will opt for the car for the short evening hop to Northampton. It is a purpose built leisure complex thingy, therefore plenty of places to get refreshments and a massive car park. The few who take the train up to this one, can still get back the same night, and are definitely advised to drink in the Town Centre, there is a massive pub which intersects one of the pedestrianised parts of the High Street, don't know the name but it is hard too miss. Never have any problems here, so enjoy a beer" - David Michael

"If you like your stadiums to be on the bland side with each stand being virtually the same in design then folks Sixfields is most definately the place for you.Whilst the facilities here are reasonable and functional they have about as much character as an extra in a TV drama...i.e. none!
The away stand is a single decker affair behind the goal and the view from here is decent.
If you fancy some food before the game then there are plenty of fast food outlets in the retail park beside the ground. However if you fancy an alcoholic beverage or two beforehand forget it.There are no actual pubs near the ground from what I could tell and the only places which do serve alcohol near the place seem reluctant to admit away fans, although this may have changed since the last time I visited the place.
In conclusion I'm glad that Northampton is a midweek game as it gives me a great excuse not to visit the stadium that's in the middle of nowhere! " - Paul Fitzsimons
