Brentford 1 Wycombe Wanderers 1
13th February 2010

Greville Waterman sees a scrappy point on an off day for the Bees.

Well the best that can be said about today is that Brentford dug out a point from a game in which they were totally outplayed by a Wycombe side that fully deserved to have won the match.

There was little or none of the pacy flowing attacking football that has characterised so many of Brentford's recent performances and apart from one lovely move that tore Wycombe apart on the half hour, which ended in Ryan Dickson scooping over an open goal, the Bees created little. So it came as a real surprise when Charlie MacDonald and sub Carl Cort created the chance for top scorer Myles Weston to drill an angled drive from the edge of the area past loan keeper Tom Heaton who was otherwise largely unworked.

Wycombe led from the impressive Kevin Betsy's calm finish and even after the equaliser a mix up between keeper and defender left ex-Bee Matt Harrold with an open goal but his weak finish was cleared off the line by Sam Wood and Brentford escaped with a point.

Everyone had a collective off day with the defence hesitant, the midfield not in the game and the strikers starved of service.

MacDonald, Weston and O'Connor fought hard, sub Lionel Ainsworth promised much for the future and the team's never give in approach paid off .

This was a poor day for the team but after their recent performances they were due one - and at least they came away with a point.
