BIAS would like to thank all of the Brentford fans who took part in the latest survey which produced some really interesting statistics.
Almost 94% of respondents believed that terraces enhance the atmosphere inside football stadiums. This figure rose to 100% when just the view of those who sit in the Bees United stand were considered and dropped to just over 80% when considering inly the views of the Bill Axbey stand users)
Just shy of three quarters of those who took the survey where aware of the Football Supporter Federation's campaign for Safe Standing.
Within the survey BIAS asked those who currently watched Brentford from the BIAS Stand (Ealing Road terrace) their reasons for choosing this vantage point. Multiple answers were permitted and just above a fifth stated that the reason they choose to stand, was to save money.
Just under a quarter indicating that the reason they stood is because they wanted to view the game from behind the goal but the biggest reason for using the BIAS stand/Ealing road terrace, given by 90.1% of the respondents who took the survey and actually used the terrace, was that they chose to stand because they would rather not sit.
Those who took the survey were asked if they would you like to see Lionel Road designed so that safe standing could be easily included in the future and this question provided some surprise answers.
Interestingly only 61% of respondents thought that Safe Standing should be consider for the away fans. Maybe this was because almost 94% of respondents believed that terraces enhance the atmosphere inside football stadiums and they wanted to quieten the away support.
Almost 92% answered that the ‘Home end’ should be designed with Safe standing being considered and 70.8% stated that they would like Lionel Road designed so that Safe Standing down could be incorporated on one side of the pitch i.e. in a lower tier such as the Paddock.
The most interesting statistic from the survey though was achieved by filtering out the responses of those who currently stand at Griffin Park, as 100% of those who stated that they sat in the Bees United stand stated that they would like Safe Standing down one side of the pitch with 65% of Bill Axbey stand users answering in a similar fashion.
In light of the survey results, BIAS strongly urges and formerly requests that Safe Standing is considered when Lionel Road is designed.
Whilst we appreciate that we may not be able to stand whilst watching Championship and Premiership football until such time as the Football Supporters Act is amended, we believe that it is vital that seating areas can be converted in the future because the sight lines have been considered now.
