BIAS reaction to Government white paper for English football

The Government’s white paper to protect the long-term future of English football was released today. Regulation in football is long overdue. Several full-time professional football clubs have collapsed under poor ownership since the formation of the Premier League in 1992. The current footballing authorities have proven unable to effectively police this aspect of the game.

While the white paper needs to be digested in full by our committee, we give a cautious welcome to its publication.

BIAS Chair, Adam Hobbs, said: “Brentford Football Club is an outlier in football as Matthew Benham’s ownership has provided financial stability for the past 11 years. The game has been crying out for effective regulation and anything that strengthens stability, plus gives fan oversight and power is welcome.”
