BIAS notes the recent remarks by CEO Jon Varney regarding the possibility of Brentford one day playing “home” games at Twickenham Stadium. While he said at the recent fans forum there are no “live discussions”, it was not ruled out completely. BIAS would, at this stage and without any further information , like to make it clear that we firmly oppose any attempt to play home games anywhere other than at a stadium in the local community, in Brentford.
In a few short years, Brentford fans and the club have created not just a new home but, in the words of our manager Thomas Frank, a fortress with an atmosphere that is the envy of the world. BIAS even met with directly with Thomas and other fans to discuss how we could make the stadium even more intimidating.
Since early 2000, BIAS, the BIAS Stadium Action Group and the ABeeC political party, other fan groups and the broader Brentford fan base have fought tooth and nail to ensure we have a stadium of our own at the heart of our local community, in Brentford.
Having finally achieved that, alongside unparalleled success on the pitch, we will oppose any attempt to give that up. The club has not discussed playing ‘home’ games at Twickenham or indeed any other venue with BIAS at the Fan Advisory Board or by any other means. Neither has the club sought our views on the possibility of any competitive games taking place away from the GTech. We will be raising this matter with the Chief Executive at the next Fan Advisory Board meeting and making our position clear.
